The teachers were good and most were kind to my kids during their years there (I had two kids there for three years). I was happy with the amount they learned and how they learned to read and write and do math. I was also happy with the amount of homework. I wished they could have had more field trips and better recess stuff to play with because the kids were always complaining about those two things.

I feel that the people in the office (not the secretaries) are rude. They talk about the kids but they don't seem to like them. The teachers are nice to the kids but there seems to be tension between the teachers and parents and the people in office.

My biggest complaint about the school is the fact that when the students are released from class at the end of the school day, those students that are picked up by parents are herded like cattle into waiting vehicles. The administration at the site has no less than 4, and usually more, teachers and staff directing traffic, urging parents to get bumper to bumper with the car in from of them. It's quite irritating on several different levels. Should I follow the hand waving of this teacher, that teacher, the other teacher over there. Plus, they make it seem as if we're not intelligent enough to pull up when the vehicle in front of us moves out. The Police Officer at the school said, recently, to another teacher, 'With this many people out here, there is going to be an accident someday.' Sums it up for me.

This school is great eventhough it has it challenges.

I believe they are trying to improve the school's academic programs but with the language barrier between teachers and students it will be very difficult.

The teachers try but they just don't have the support they need. There is not enough training, classes are overcrowded and we are buying our own supplies!

I really wanted to like this school, it has low child to teacher ratio, it's been remodeled and has a really nice campus. However, my son is in the first grade and I'm really getting frustrated. They started the 'Early out' program on Wednesday's to supposedly help the teachers with preparation and training time. The only results I've seen from this are less class time than usual. The kids are only in class for 6 hours as it is and only for 5 hours on Wednesdays. That makes for a total of 29 hours a week! I believe in order for our kids to really get an edge in education they need more hours in the classroom. I'm very disappointed in the response I get from my son's teacher also. I've repeatedly asked to have his hearing tested and his speech, with no response from his teacher.

Both of our children have attended Washington Elementary School. We are pleased with the quality of the academic programs. The architecture of the school is inspiring to the students, providing them with a comfortable atmosphere for learning. There are music, art, sports and other extracurricular activities available, yet it is our belief that at this age, the core academic curriculum is most important. The students' parents are involved, and given an opportunity for input, yet they are more involved with social activities than academic ones.

Washington elementary has a wonderful teacher for special needs children in the first grade. My son just started there at the beginning of the year. When he started he didn't know how to read write or do math except for basic counting. Now he can count to 100 he can add and subtract and he can read. The staff at the school are very good with him and they try to meet all the needs that he has. He has accomplished so much since starting in this school. He went to a different school last year and the teacher would tell them how stupid they all were or that they were to much trouble and send them home. I just think this school is top notch.

My children go to Ocotillo and I am very satisfied with this school.

This is an excellant elementary school. It focuses on the children, and their needs. It has grown in size in the last 6 to 8 years. It has not lost sight of its goals for the kids. The staff is caring.
