Settlers Point Elementary School Reviews

The principal has some major issues w/ leadership. The safety issue at parent pick-up is crazy! Parents are NOT encouraged to be involved.

This school has some leadership issues.

The school is great! Our two girls (3rd and 4th grade)love the faculty, and we appreciate the effort we see to challenge the students abilities. While it is true, there are many families that do not spend much time on learning at home, we see our kids test scores consistently above the district and national averages. This couldn't be done without great educators and good leadership. Our kids take the bus most of the time, so the drop-off/pick-up issue isn't that much of a challenge for us. From what I have seen though, if people would just be as polite as their kids, it would be much easier. There are a lot of great activities put on by the Dads' Club. Movie Nights, Cosmic Bowling, etc... Overall it is a great place for your children to be learning. Make it better by participating and being active in their school.

The school is academically outstanding, teacher and regular staff are wonderful...the pick up/drop off and parking needs to be addressed though before a child is injured it is just a mess out there.

We have been overall pleased with my son's experience at Settler's Point. The upper grade resource teacher is excellent. She goes out of her way to help students. The principal has addressed our concern also. Some teachers will not respond to parent emails and phone calls. The office staff seems generally competent and caring.

I have really enjoyed Settlers Point so far. My child began in Jan 06 for the second half of 2nd grade. Our teacher was not great, (she's gone now) but overall I liked the school. Academics are tougher and broader in Gilbert then our previous state. I love the Chess club. My child enjoyed the summer VIK program and VIK after school is convenient. For 3rd grade, our teacher this year is new but fantastic! The Music program was really cute! I love that I can email her for issues/concerns and get bi-weekly progress on every grade my child receives. I love the interaction and really feel they deserve the Excelling Rating they have worked hard to achieve. Overall it's been a very good experience.

I really like this school...Most of the teachers are excellent - teach to different levels of the children (advanced learning and reading programs, etc). Not crazy about the principal - but she does listen to parent concerns. My kids have gone thru k - 3rd grade so far and they both love it. Very safe environment and lots of extra activities (i.e. Science club, choir, etc). The before-and-after school program is not the best format (basically an open gym forum) - but it is available if needed.

Our kindergarten experience at Settlers Point was very positive. We were very pleased with the quality of the teacher. She did an excellent job preparing our son for first grade. There was an excellent mix of academic and field trip experiences.

My daughter really enjoyed attending kindergarden at this school. The staff was really friendly. The student drop off/pick up situation is difficult but I have seen worse. The front office staff has always been very friendly and helpful.

I was really impressed with the front office staff who really actually would check to make sure you were actually a parent picking up your child before the child was released. My child's first grade teacher was inexperienced, but she tried to make learning fun for the kids. I was impressed that Art was actually emphasized instead of forgotten. My child complained about not enough computers or P.E.

Settler's Point is a great school. They are very responsive and caring about all of the students. The staff makes it a point to kow each and every child. There is a lot of parental involvement, and many activities throughout the year. The school has a Chess Club, Dad's Club, Math Facts Club, Reading Club, Recycling Club, and other activities.

My daughter just started going to Settler's Point and has had a wonderful first year here. I was suprised at the extent of the parent involvement and I look forward to enrolling her in this school next year.

Great parent interaction, even an active Dad's club. Staff is very attentive to parent input. I love this school. One teacher I have reservations about- told that they are 'working with her to resolve any problems'. Love the rest of the staff.

There are definitely excellent teachers to be found within this school. However, beware of the ones that are not excellent. I have found that even some of the most highly recommended teachers have a serious lack of professionalism, with which have not been dealt with appropriately.

I found the students and children pleasant, but found the front office staff very rude. The principal didn't seem to want to deal with some of the difficult issues faces schools. The pick up procedures were hard to understand and no one followed them. When I didn't follow them like everyone else I was verbally yelled at. The school taught to the middle and lower students so if your child was above average they got bored. I wasn't told about the ALP program by the teacher until the testing was over, this might have helped my child not be bored. I asked several people about getting involved in the PTN program and no one not even the president seemed to want my help or involvement.

School as a whole is reasonably well-organized and staff is responsive & nice. Teachers in Grades K and 1 have been excellent.

The school provides an ideal learning environment. From the top down it is outstanding. The principle is heavily involved in all the activies at the school and know most of the children by name. Quite a task for a school with almost 1000 students. I have had 3 children attending and all have had wonderful teachers. The programs and extracurricular activities are well organized, challenging and fun for the kids. The school has a very active PTSO and Dads Club that sponsor a number of fun family activities each year. Overall, we could not be happier.

There are a few problems with the overall structure of programs and parent involvement. If you're a stay-at-home mom, then you'll be able to attend and enjoy all of the activities. If you work - good luck trying to coordinate the meetings and volunteering any of your time. I've had trouble getting with the 'in' crowd and figuring out the key players in the different programs offered. Overall, the program that I did involve myself in was poorly run and had no structure or management. The school, however, is great. My 1st grader is well above the statistics for reading/writing/arithmetic and enjoys all of his homework (which, by the way, there is a good 30 minutes to 1 hour for him.) The absolute worst part about this school is the parking and the drop-off/pick-up situtation. That's a nightmare. The absolute best part about this school is the education and skillset taught.

I have two children at Settler's Point. They are in the third and first grades. I have been very pleased with the school. My girls love school and are challenged. The ALP program is wonderful and gives them enrichment. There is much to offer and it is a positive place to be. I love volunteering and teaching Art Masterpiece in my children's classes. The principal is wonderful. He knows all the students by name and is fair and kind!

Parents appear to be utterly pathetic in involvement on the greater scale. Many of the 'standards' of the school get lowered because the school knows that the parents will not support them in getting the students to achieve them. Homework is minimal because the teachers know kids will not turn it in and the parents complain if too much work is sent home.
