Maryvale High School Reviews

lack of parental involvement hurts. good sports program though.

The athletics program at Maryvale has got to be the worst in the state in terms of support from the administration.

I am a student from the 05 class! I have to say that Maryvale HS is one great school in every aspect! Teachers are wonderfulm, they really push you to do your best. The counselors are awesome- especially Mr. Kelleher! Maryvale has a great variety of programs you can join and great elective classes! Go panthers!!!!!

this school is fantastic. the academic achievment is astonishing!!

I am A student at Maryvale and it's great I believe that the Music program is the best around Band, choir and Guitar all have the most supporting teachers, the administration also helps the music program a lot, we are not the wealthiest but that doesn't matter we still perform great at all Competitions. I would never give maryvale up to go to a 'better performing' school because I know we are not the known for the best. But the good thing about us is that we in the music program put 500% dedication no matter what our reputation is.

I am a student at Maryvale, and I have to agree that it has the best band program in state. The extracurricular activities here are great, dance, choir, band, guitar, and art classes are fantastic! It is a wonderful school, We might have a bad reputation, but it's sure has improved. Go panthers!

Well as a parent I am pleased with Maryvale High School. I feel they really try to help the students. There are many classes that the kids can take. There is a great dance class. I like that they are a stay on campus for lunch hour. Plus they have a good security team. They are friendly but strict especially Vinny he is great with all the students. The football teams are great it keeps many kids out of trouble and gives somthing to do plus it keeps there grades up just as all the other sports. I feeel it is just a better school and I would rather have my child there than at Trevor Browne High. Go Maryvale Go. Almost all my family gonig back alomost 30 yrs has grduated from this school so lets keep the tradition!

My step-son graduated from Maryvale. Even though his father and I are educators, he could not get through high school. He was enrolled in a charter school until I visited Maryvale High School. I walked the halls, sat in on classes, talked to the teachers and students and became convinced there was learning going on and there was discipline in the school. While we were in the counselor's office a poster for the ROTC program caught my son's eye. The ROTC program gave him the discipline and confidence to study and pass his academic classes. He became a platoon leader and after graduation joined the army. The army gave him financial aid to go to a tech school when he was discharged. He now has a good paying job. Some of the teachers took a personal interest in his success along with the army personnel. We are very grateful.

This review is for all bilingual students. Bilingual classes in Maryvale are not the best, they basically used more spanish than english, and at the end of the school year, you are still not speaking English. As far as I know they do not have advanced classes of math, such as calculus, and they need better teacher for regular English classes. On the other hand, Maryvale High School has a good availability of art, music and sports. As far as parents involments with the school, it is up to the parents themselves, if they push and get in touch on a regular basis, they can unsure the success of ther kids.

Maryvale High School's academic program needs more work in the science part. For instance, the maximun level of Math does not goes to calculus, which in other high schools does go to calculus. The same for physics. The classes for bilingual students is not the best, it needs more English than Spanish. Teachers end up giving Spanish only classes and forget about the English. Sometimes at the end of hte school year, students can not speak English. The High School's availability of music and art is very extensive, the same for sports. The parents can easily get involve by starting to talk to the adviser and then their kid's teachers.

Has best band program in the state.

Maryvale is a school teachers are on top of their students and take the time to work indivisually with other students on or off school time. They take it personally when a student fails.

My child is returning to Maryvale. The only thing I want to comment on is the parent who states that there are 'no bad children, only bad parenting' I have raised 4 children. They have all received the best care, love, guidance, discipline that any single mom could give. One of them has been in and out of jail since he was a youngster...I have had no problems with the other 3. They were all brought up the same; I take offense at a comment that would appear to put all blame on parents, who for the most part, do the best that they can. Before you make generalized comments like that, please take into consideration that mental illness and/trauma also have alot to do with a child's behavior. I do agree on one comment you have made. There are no bad children.

I have two children who are alumni and one that is a current sophomre who is in the National Honor Society at Maryvale. I am very pleased with the staff, teachers and other personnel at Maryvale. The JROTC staff have been an important part of the education process, teaching strong values and self discipline. I believe that the state overlooks many of the positive aspects of this fine school.

Not only am I a parent of two students at Maryvale I am also an alumni and a current employee. This school has come a long way since I was a student. If we could get more parent and community support for these students the potential of these wonderful kids could be shown more. Remember there are no bad children just bad parenting! we have a wonderful choir, drama department that gets no recognition. It is sad that these children get no real support. Maryvale Community come out and support the future of our country!

I have two children at Maryvale. I was scared to send my children there but My son is a junior and I am very proud of the schoool and teachers. I was upset about the failing grade of the school but I feel the state needs to look at the positive things at maryvale. The most omportant is the caring staff and the positive students there. I hope their are other parents at Maryvale who write and let others know about are great teachers and staff but mostly are great children that attend Maryvale.
