Martin Luther King Jr Elementary School Reviews
Quality Score: 3 Post Date:2008-12-22
“I am a volunteer at MLK school. The school has a few great teachers that are really concerned about the students learning and getting what they need to succeed. Teachers like, Mrs. Kohler, Mrs. Baldwin, Ms. Johnson, Mrs. Allen, Ms. Gilbert, Mr. Arrowsmith, Ms. Enoch, Ms. Brown, Mrs. Harris, and Ms. Hill really do care about the students. Sometimes they have to let the students know that they mean business and really want them to learn. I enjoy the school and feel parents can domore to make the school better.” This review was posted by a other.

“Some of the teachers need to learn how to communicate with the childern and to have patience also. The school does have good teachers.” This review was posted by a other.

“My gifted/adhd son was in LaTonya Jones' second grade class for the 03/04 school year, coming from another school for the gifted magnate program. The transition was at times excrutiating due to his special needs. Ms. Jones, Ms. Koba (asst. principal) and Ms. Roque (principal) were dedicated to finding positive solutions to accomodate those needs. The administrative staff as well as the school resource staff (Karen Eger, gifted consulting teacher, Jennifer Beatty, social worker, Tom Ruddy, school psychologist) are also incredibly supportive. Whether you run into an MLK teacher or custodian on campus or at Safeway, they will know you & your child, and they greet you in a friendly, professional manner. MLK may lack financial resources, it's beyond rich in the quality and commitment of their staff. I've been so pleased with my experience at MLK that my daughter will attend kindergarten at King under open enrollment for 04/05.” This review was posted by a parent.

“The faculty and administration at MLK Jr. as a general rule treats the students who attend there as future criminals. Though the school has funding for special teachers in Art, Music, PE and Library Sciences, the children are given very little opportunity for creative expression. The emphasis at MLK Jr. is in following each law to the letter. I saw a first grade boy who was reprimanded for not doing all the movements to a song that the class was singing in Music. Many teaching practices at this predominantly bilingual school are teacher and rule focused, instead of student and learning focused.” This review was posted by a parent.

“My son was in Ms. L. Jones' 2nd grade gifted class last year and she was great. When all of his friends were moved from the class due to test scores, my son tried to slack off so that he too would be moved with his friends. But being the smart teacher that she is, she realized what he was trying to do, and pushed him to work harder because she knew he belonged in her class and could do the work. She was a very informative teacher, with weekly emails & progress reports, as well as getting us as parents involved in the extra curricular activities that they were doing in class. I really wish there were more teachers like Ms. L. Jones.” This review was posted by a parent.

“Kindergarten teacher Mrs Goodrich is one of many bright spots on MLK faculty. I have been very impressed with the professionalism displayed at school and I would recommend it to anyone I talk to. Mlk all the way.” This review was posted by a .
