Alhambra High School Reviews

I have had problems with teachers and administration from day one. The children run wild and are allowed to bring music and headphones to class disrupting the rest of the students who want to learn. There is absolutely no sort of dress code. Teachers have no control over the students. I am in the process of finding an alternative school for my soon to be freshman son as I know he will not be challenged at Alhambra academically or morally. A bad experience overall.

My son has attended Alhambra High School since his freshman year and has excelled in his studies. My son entered his freshman year with some obstacles he was facing and the team at Alhambra involved my son and us as parents in the goals he was to accomplish that year. I have been included throughout the 4 years in my sons activities, grades, truancy (not a problem) on a regular basis. I have bee pleasantly surprised and overjoyed at the way my son has been treated at Alhambra. I was a little scared at first because the school is so large, but my son stuck to his studies and other activities and has already passed the AIMS tests and will be graduating this year. Thank you Alhambra.

I think that the education is good but there are way to many fights. I am gald that my daughter is going there she really likes the cheer squad. I think that if your child wants to be challenged he/she should go here. My daughter has been going here for 3 years and she gets along with everyone just great. The standards foor this school is really good.

Alhambra is a very good high school. My daughter attended this school 4 years, she was involved in several extracurricular activities, had very good grades, and always told me she liked her teachers and classmates very much. She graduated this year and is planning on enlisting herself in the Army. Teachers are very well educated and know what they are teaching their students, they help them (students) many times until they understand and learn in a safe and happy environment, I personally had the pleasure to meet my daughter's teachers. They helped me help her with her homework, etc. Also the school is protected by securities and it is violence and drugs free. Alhambra High School was a great and wonderful experience for my daughter and for many others. Thanks greatschools.org for giving us parents the opportunity to be informed and inform others about our great schools in Arizona !

Whenever my daughter has problems and I need to call and talk to someone, they never return my phone calls and then they blame me. It is so easy for everyone to ditch because no one seems to pay attention to the kids. My daughter will come home when class is in session because of something and says she just walks out the side gate. The teachers are pretty good so far, but I have ran into some that are not good teachers. The faculty do not seem to care too much of the kid's money situations and still expect some them to buy all these supplies just for one activity. My daughter was also called stupid by one of the teachers even though she is in all of the honors programs and has a 3.8 GPA. Whenever I try to call to complain, no one calls me back, so how can this school improve?

I am an alhmbra high school student and feel that the school has too many students and either pays too much attention to those 'smart' kids and those 'troubled'. I however am between and feel they do not give as much attention too. I really wish that they have a better staff of counselors as well they messed up my schedule and I had to go to night school for their mistakes!!! please don't attend not worth it.

This school has an excellent counseling department lead by Ms. Burnand. They have a great college program and University club to increase college attendance. Ms. Baumhaver has a special program to help student achieve admission to top colleges. The counselors are very hard working and believe in the students. In one year, the school raised over 10 million in scholarships. The counselors have worked to have college night, financial aid programs, and college admission program into ASU, Uof A and NAU. Wow, they have done wonderful job.

First of all I dont know why people who have never attended Alhambra High School comment about it. I graduated from AHS on May and I dont regret studying there the 4 yers of high school. I loved it!!!! I already miss it! Now Im ready to attend ASU on August. Ill have in mind all the advices my teachers gave me. Special thanks to Ms. Godemann (business and computers teacher) shes been my business and computers teacher since freshmen year. Go Liiiiooooooooooooooooooooooons! Also, Alhambra Class of 2009 broke the record in scholorship money from the Phoenix Union High Achool District. I bet you people didnt know that

I have been attending Alhambra since my freshman year. At first my parents weren't too convinced on allowing me to attend Alhambra because of the reputation it has. I'll be a junior the next year, and I don't regret the choice I made to attend Alhambra. I have all honors classes, and a 3.8 GPA. I met the AIMS writing and exceeded the AIMS reading on the 1st try. To be honest, The two years that I have been there I have definately seen improvement. The school has become more strict about dress code and behavior. Parents should be more involved so they know EXACTLY what's going on. I clearly will be able to function in the real world, as Alhambra AND my parents are teaching me. overall, this a great school! GO LIONS!

One of the very obvious things is that Alhambra High School is not a terrible school. It's a very good school with a top students, just that no one talks about them. If AHS was a terrible as previous reviewer said, then how come we have a student going to West Point and an Athletic Training Student Assistant of the Year for State of Arizona? Certain things are missing, because people who don t focus on their studies and goals believe that AHS is the worst school of them all, but actually is not. It s like any other school; you get out of it what you put into it. Many students don t take advantage of what they got in front of them, no wonder all negativity is pointed towards Alhambra. GOOOO LIONS!!!

This school is terrible. As an educational institution, it is half correct. There is no education happening here but it is definitely an institution. From terrible behavior of both students and teachers, to dress code, this place is a disaster. Do not send your child here if you expect them to be able to function in any part of the real world.

My son is in mostly honors classes, and for the most part, the quality of the teachers is outstanding. Non-honors classes may be another story. Your child will get out of this school what he or she puts into it. Parent involvement is also critical to a quality educational experience.

I have had two children got through AHS. I currently have one there. Most of the teachers are pretty good. The school has improved a lot over the years, still room for improvement. Got to keep up on your childs teachers and be very involved with how and what they are doing. AHS is a good school.

Dr Herrera and Ms. Christenson are the best teachers in campus. Teachers are the best quality Alhambra High School has. The ladies from the office are not good. They never answer phone calls or attend atudents when they are supposed to.

I Graduated AHS in 2004, my experience there was by far like any other h.s your going to go to. They have its ups and downs. Teachers are VERY helpful! they like to see their students accomplish in life, they are there for you before and after school, if need be. I did however question some of the security guards there, but however they were very nice, and never let any kind of argument esculate to somthing worse. Great School overall...Wouldnt have changed anything! GO LIONS!! :)
