Kachina Country Day School - North Campus Reviews

This is my daughter's first year in 4th grade at KCDS and I could not be more pleased with all aspects of the school. The small class atmosphere and caring teachers and staff make this school unique. She goes to school each day with a smile. Individual attention is always availablee and although she is challenged to work harder every day, I am grateful to have found a safe and caring place where she can grow academically and socially.

I can't say enough great things about KCDS North. My daughter is a Kindergartner there and absolutely loves it. The class is small compared to public schools which entitles her to more one on one time with her wonderful teacher Mrs. Williamson. The office staff is terrific as well. We had our first visit and from that time on everyone knew us by name. I have older children that went through the public school system and I feel that they lacked the personal attention that is given at KCDS. I wish I would have known about KCDS then.

Kachina Country Day School North is an excellent school. My son had significant developmental delays, compounded by ADHD. The early elementary teachers were able to accommodate and work with him and have brought him up to grade level. Now that he is in the upper grades, he is working with the Resource Director to develop study and test taking skills, and to remediate the remaining gaps in his learning. He thoroughly enjoys working with the Resource Director and will solicit her help when the class is working on an assignment that he finds challenging. I am pleased with the flexibility of the school. My son is able to benefit from resource services, yet is able to participate in the core classes with his peers. Kachina truly believes in each student reaching their potential and has made a significant impact on my son's ability to achieve his academic potential!

My granddaughter began school at Kachina Country Day this school year. She has such an amaziung teacher. She meets all of the childrens academic and socail/emotional needs. Her hands on approach has encouraged my granddaughter to learn through a variety of means. The teacher does not stand alone. At Kachina the teachers really care about their students. I give Kachina 5 stars.

At KCDS I am allowed to be a part of my child's education which is very important to me. Teachers work hard to communicate daily happenings and there is an overall feeling of 'welcome' around the school. My child gets lots of attention and so do I! Thank you KCDS and if you are thinking of sending your child here, you are close to making a very good decision for your family!

This school is excellent for children in the lower grades (K-3) but a poor choice for children in the upper grades (4-8) or who require special education/resource classes. The lower grade teachers recognize that the students learn in different ways, are responsive to student needs and are communicative with parents. I have not found the upper grade teachers to be as responsive nor do they have high expectations of their students. I do not feel that students graduating from 8th grade here will be adequately prepared for high school. Regarding the resource classroom, it is little more than a babysitting service and the resource director is unaware of, if not plain uninterested in, the needs of her students.

Kachina Country Day School is wonderfuland unique. It stands head and shoulders above the majority of public, private and charter schools. It has the warmest environment I have ever encountered, small class sizes, an excellent staff, and most importantly they honor their students' individuality, their individual style of learning, and their creativity. The curriculum content is above average. My daughter's education is of the utmost importance to me, and I have extensively researched every school I've ever even considered sending her to. They not only guide your child through their education, they guide your child toward being a better person. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the incredible executive staff at both campus', (the Charter campus in Scottsdale and the private campus in Paradise Valley). The executive director, Janece Klein, is light years ahead of anyone I've ever come across in the educational field.

I LOVE this school! My son is in first grade at KCDS North and also attended kindergarten there. Academically, KCDS-North is top-notch. My son is excelling; he left kindergarten being able to read to me cover-to-cover and I'm constantly amazed at all he's learned in math and computers. He only has 12 other students in his class and gets great one-on-one attention. Plus, the adminsitration is WONDERFUL. KCDS is like a family; nurturing & caring, but firm when they need to be. It's very obvious Mr Steve (principal), Mrs Kline (founder) and Miss Beth (office manager) truly love and care about the kids, and all staff provide an exceptional learning environment. I am so grateful to have found this school. My two younger children will go here too. If Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy -- but I'm thrilled. -M Krause

My second grade little boy has attended KCDS North for a few short months, yet the positive impact it's made on our family and him personally is enormous. My son always attended private schools and for second grade we began interviewing all the schools 8 months in advance in the Scottsdale and Paradise Valley area. When we chose Kachina after having met with the Administration a tremendous weight was lifted from my mind because none of the other schools matched our son's needs and our family's need perfectly, except Kachina. I knew I had made the best decision, and the difference in my son's enthusiasm for attending everyday and his overall happiness between last year and this year is quite noticeable. My family is much happier this year because KCDS' attention to each individual child, its teachers and culture are outstanding. Kathleen K

This school has been wonderful for my three kids. My second grader, who came home from public school every day grumpy and sad, has been positively bouncing home so excited to be learning new things. The three kids I have at this school all love the teachers, the principal and even the work they are doing. Two of them have increased their work loads AND their grades. Where they struggle--the teachers are concerned about them and work together to help them through any rough spots.

My son spent most of his elementary years at an excellent public school in North Scottsdale, Unfourtnatly my son was the target of bulling. He was devastated, insecure and angry. He was entitled to fresh start. Fortunately, for 8th grade, we found Kachina Country Day School, North Campus and Ms. Kline. Ms. Kline, and Headmaster, Mr. Steve, have created an environment where it is safe for students to be themselves. They gave my son unique opportunities to regain self-confidence and accountability, lost once the bulling began in middle school. As a freshman at an academically demanding school, my son is attempting new challenges (freshman track team?). Thank you Ms. Kline, Mr. Steve and Kachina Country Day School, It is wonderful to have my confident, compassionate son back.

I feel so very lucky to have found KCDS and would not wish for my son to go anywhere else. He has been attending since preschool and we have had nothing but positive experiences. The Director, Principle, all of the staff and teachers are outstanding in their kindness, understanding, support and patience. Janice Kline is brilliant and compassionate. Her understanding of the children and of the learning process are incomparable! I would highly recommend this school to any parent who is seeking the best quality education and best school experience for their child. It is without a doubt the best decision my family has ever made!

A great school for learning! My son's birthday is just after the public schools' cutoff date and they refused to let him into Kindergarden (when he could have gone into their 1st Grade). KCDS North took him and nurtured him both academically and socially. They have kept him challenged and growing intellectually. He has made good friends there and the teachers really care for the children. Initially, I was going to just enter my son for Kindergarden so I could get him into a slightly closer public school for 1st Grade, but, when I saw what he learned, how much he learned and how he learned it there is no way I could take him out of Kachina and have his learning regress. It would have been a lifechanging setback to go back to your typical subpar public school.

This school is absolutely excellent in everyway. My gifted daughter came to the school from a public school with large class size. The smaller classes and excellent curriculum, which is based on the older Kachina that has been one of the top schools for years, are the trick to top education. It has been proven that classes from 12-15 are the optimum size. The Saxon math is excellent and my daugther herself will say she really understand math now. The teachers are truly special and the environment warm and creative. The staff are helpful and kind. I cannot not think of a better environment for a child. This school is really like a private school, uniforms and all. Hats off to Steve, the Principal, and the staff for creating such a wonderful envirnoment. Happy Parent. Debra

I have been very pleased with Kachina North, especially with the administration. I am very particular about curriculum and class size.

My son attends the 8th grade since November, 2007. The small class size has helped him stay focused on all school work. Which in turn, has made him one of the top students. I personally just love, love this school! Teachers, Ms Beth, Mr. Steve (principal) and Mrs. Cline (founder) are all number 1! They care about each student and their parents equally. Best school EVER! I recommend this school to anyone I know. Am very happy they have decided to add 9th grade! Proud parent of student attending Kachina Country Day School North - A. Halverson

Our daughter has been attending her first year at Kachina Country Day School North for Kindergarten. Mrs. Williamson is a wonderful teacher who really cares about the growth and well being of her class. She is very calm and disciplines the children with grace and a relaxed strength that the children listen to. The school is well organized. Ms. Beth is very polite and on top of everything. Mr. Steve, the principal, is a very nice man who the kids look up to and respect. His demeanor is kind but firm. They have a plan for learning that the kids really enjoy. They teach harmony with others and emphasize the fundamental reading and writing skills, not to mention that my 5 year old is also doing math. I would highly recommend this school to anyone and feel fortunate that our daughter attends Kachina Country Day School North! A. Baker

My son is in his first year at Kachina North and is in the 8th grade. We have been extremely happy with the school, teachers, and administration. He looks forward to going to school and absolutely loves his teacher. My only regret is that we didn't find this school sooner!

I would have to say that I strongly disagree with the comment made on January 21st. Principal Steve is, in my opinion the most able Principal that I have ever dealt with and I have dealt with a few in my profession. He runs the school with Confidence and Wisdom. The students love Mr.Steve and it is appartent that he in turn loves the children. Kachina is a positive and fun learning atmosphere for the children and I have and will continue to refer anyone I know to this school. I feel fortunate that my child attends Kachina Country Day School North!

This will be our Kindergartener s first semester at Kachina and we could not be more please with Mr. Steve, Beth and Mrs. Williamson! We feel that our daughter could not be receiving better care than she is currently. The communication from the teacher and administration is wonderful. My wife and I wish that our work schedules could allow us to be more involved; on the other hand, we are confident in the abilities of the entire Kachina Family.

Last year I worked with the children during specials in the afternoon January - May. The first half of the year there were many things going on with the collapes of Stars Prep and Kachina coming in and taking over. I was very impressed with how the administration handled everything and how much the teachers cared about the children. This year I am doing a weekly after school program and still love the inviorment of the school. The students are happy and the teachers seem happy and the administration is wonderful. I love Mr. Steve. He is knows what he is doing and the children and teachers love him. I would recommend this school to anyone. I know personally the Kindergarten and 1st grade teachers and can recommend them with out hesitation to anyone. Kachina has a great inviroment, I wish when my children were young there were options like this!

This is our second year with Kachina, the teachers are dedicated caring & progressive individuals. It shows as each cares not only for their own classroom students yet interact with the students as a whole. It has been said that it takes a village to raise a child. In today's world where families are spread far & wide Kachina Country Day North is the village type setting where your child will not only be educated yet cared for in a healthy environment to complement you're parenting responsibilities to have each child reach for the best they can be. In addition the programs within the school day & during aftercare are diverse & encourage children to experience a rich variety of activities to further develop their interests & talents. To duplicate these opportunities outside of school & work for many parents would be challenging.

This is our first year at Kachina North and we couldn't be happier! Our son has excelled above and beyond our expectations in his kindergarten class and we believe that his teacher and the school's atmosphere play a huge role in that. There is such a positive attitude there and it makes the children excited to learn!

This is our first year at Kachina-North campus. We were at another school for three years. The school she went to was a wonderful school. Yet I wanted her to experience a school with smaller classrooms no more then 20 students. I also like that it goes to 8th grade. I also like the curriculum. In the morning you have all core curriculum like math, reading, writing, science, history, social studies and geography. Then in the afternoon they rotate classes by going to computers, spanish, P.E., art, music and economics. Which my third grader is very excited about this. All the teachers seem very nice. I know that we really like our teacher, we think she is doing a wonderful job. The Principal Mr. Steve is wonderful. Our old principal was more a figure on campus, never felt very approachable. Where as Mr. Steve is the complete opposite. Great school.

KCDS-North is a teacher's dream! The administration provides an expansive foundation on which this school stands and flourishes. Families are eager to participate in the learning process and it shows in our much our children are able to accomplish. My student's have become my world and I look forward to each day that I get to expand their knowledge banks. Here at Kachina, we do not only place focus on academics, but on developing our students into well-rounded citizens. I believe that is why we are able to boast so much about all our young prodigies. With all the choices of schools there are out there, I cannot imagine a better environment then here at Kachina and hope to be a part of their family for years to come.

Kachina Country Day School North is a wonderful school for students, parents, and staff. The teachers and administration work extremely hard to afford students a high quality education in a safe and fun-filled learning environment. Students are given weekly lessons in drama, Spanish, EDUSS (math, english, and phonics based computer program), art, Computer Technology Workshop, economics, physical education, and science. Kachina has a terrific Parent Teacher Organization who are an integral part of our positive culture. Students at Kachina are educated for life! Please call to schedule a tour of our school, you will be happy you did! Steve Prahcharov Principal

Kachina Country Day School North is the Phoenix that emerged from the ashes of Stars Prep. The transition was made as smoothly as possible, given the circumstances. Mr. Steve is a wonderful principal. He is involved and actually seems to care about the students at his school--I haven't seen him stumble over a child's name yet. The teachers take a genuine interest in their students and work with 'challenging' students, where other schools would put them in the back of the classroom and allow them to fail. The school work requires effort, but is not out of reach. The children are taught actual lessons, rather than being taught how to pass the AIMS test. The students are told that they earn their grades, and that has always been true. It's very refreshing in a time when children are not held accountable for their actions.

I am so grateful to Kachina Country Day School! My son loves this school and is having a great experience! Small class sizes, special classes, and great enrichment programs are all available. We have been treated with respect and kindness from the principal at all times. We would recommend KCDS North to anyone who is looking for a great foundation for their child.
