Canyon Pointe Academy Reviews

I am very diapointed with this school. I have asked many time for better communication from the staff and have yet to receive it. My son is new to the school this year has been moved back a grade becuase of the change in reading programs which I do feel that the one at Canynon Pointe has much potential, but not when the parent does not really know what to do to help the child. I am disapointed for the third time and plan on moving my child back to public school after Christmas break. If you are a mind reader, then this school is for your family.

We have had our son at North Pointe(Canyon) since July 2007. We are very happy with the school and teachers. Like most schools, there are some good teachers and some not so good. We believe that the change in the admin. staff is for the better and Ms. Rhone will be an excellent Principal as she truly cares about her students. Our son has homework every night and we are kept up on how he is doing. Overall this is a super school and we would recommend it to anyone. The only downfall is the campus itself. They lack the funding to build out but the most impt. thing is education not buildings and they have that in spades.

My daughter has been to NPA since 4th grade. Shes made a lot of friends unlike her old public school. The educational level is extremly high. In math and reading helpers test the new students to see where there at. That is great so your child will be int the right math/reading class. My daughter is in 6th grade and loves her teacher. All the teachers are wonderful so if your looking for a good school then NPA is the right place for you!

I would not rate this as an 8. Very disappointed in the attitude of teachers and staff. Moved my child to another charter school.

This school is a great school, the academice level is very high. My daughter is in sixth grade and she is doing allgebra one along with eight other children. She is keeping straight A's ad B's on her report card as she dose theater, band, after school sports, and more. She has been at the school sence it opended so she helps new studens get around. She loves the teachers, the principale, and the students. She is geting ready to go to the Prep next year. I've been happy with this schol for a long time and I hope you come and love it too!!!!!!!!!!! Go NPA Lions

I am currently looking to move my daughter out after one month. The school is not organized. The morning of orientation they knew the air was out in the room they choose. The held orientation in the same room anyway at 6 pm, instead of moving it to a room with air. They don't check fund raisers for accuracy before sending everything home. They are changing the principal and teachers already. When I picked her up today, she had fallen during recess. This is not the first time she has come home with dirt embedded injuries.

We have had our children at North Pointe Academy for three years. It used to be a great place for our family. Not anymore. We are disappointed in the decline. The negative is just too great this last year. We are upset with the way the school is run now. There is a lack of overall caring by the administrators. The teachers seem so stressed at the end of the year. The fun has gone out of this school when a great principal left.

We used to love North Pointe Academy, but since Kim Agnew left things have gone downhill very quickly. She cared about the students, teachers, and is a seasoned educator. The new administration is inexperienced and the decline in the school shows. We are leaving next year.

2005-2006 was our first year at North Pointe. Before making the decision to move our kids to North Pointe, we did much research, soul searching, prayer. Sacrifices had to be made. For example, just getting them to and from school and activities requires driving 700-1000 miles per week. Has it been worth it? Absolutely! All three of our children have done better academically and socially than they have ever done in any previous school. They have all been Honor Students for the entire year. They have all mixed socially without pressures and conflicts experienced in previous schools. They have all matured mentally. Each of them has (on their own) made significant decisions concerning their life-style, acquaintances, and activity participation with only minimal guidance from Mom and Dad. We look forward to our future at North Pointe.

We love North Pointe! This school has been a life-saver. If you have a child with special needs, this is the school for you. The teachers are highly qualified, motivated, and dedicated. The administration is professional, fun, caring and sets high expectation for the students. There are only a few draw-backs, of wich none are the education, teachers or administration. One is the distance of the school if you live in the far west or south valley, and that riding the bus is not free. The other is the almost constant fundraising and the fact that all of the familiy nights include paying for a meal even though the food is donated. Field trips are not free and there are some classroom fees. In other words the school does not have a lot of money and the parents pay for it. However, the education and family feel is priceless!

The absolute best school for my child! I made a mistake and took my child out to go to her 'home school' in the neighborhood. I was back in less than two weeks! Horray for North Pointe Academy! My daughter loves it and the biggest mistake was taking her out! Wonderful third grade teachers!

This is a great school! The only draw back is the distance from the Prep. The school also asks for money for various activities which would make it less affordable for lower income families. Education is great but grants would be great to offset the costs of field trips and other 'necessary' offerings the school has.

Not as happy with the school as we had hoped

To Whom It May Concern, My child was in NPA for one year. The teachers and staff there where the best thing that ever happen to my child. Not only did they help my child with her education but after she left the school and went to the Prep. They have followed through on her education still. The school cares about the children as well as their education. If you every think that there might be a problem you can always talk to the teachers. I would send any child to the NPA or the NPP. Before I sent my child any where. I would like to think , Mr. Lindsay , Mrs. Johnston and Dean Agnew if it wasn t for them my child may still be lost in the system. I know that when a child go home or at the end of the year they still care and follow up on any thing that they are worried about. Just remember if you want your child to have the best education take them here and then to the Prep. Their not in to getting the money their there to make sure your child gets the best education that they can. Thank You Very Much, Debbie P.

My daughter had a rough start in Mr. Lindsay's class room in 5th Grade. When she moved onto 6th grade all she could do was ask for Mr. Lindsay to be her teacher in 6th grade too. She went from the 50th percentile in all her AIMS testing to 80-90% in all subjects since attending this school. The staff and Administration are focused on education and really have a no nonsense approach to bad behavior... It's not accepted! Do your work, Parents be involved and your experience will be the best ever! It takes everyone to make this school run and the parent team is Awesome!

I have a child in North Point Academy and I love it. He is learning many more thing than he would in the public school system. The teachers all know him and myself by name. I love it!!!

We are very please with North Pointe Academcy. It is awesome.

My child is going to 6th grade and I am very pleased.

I would just like to say my child enjoyed herself this past year in Ms. Rogus's class. I have compared what she has learned to some of her other friends in different schools and I was just blown away by the advancement of this school. I can't wait to see how much she will learn in first grade. I recomend this school to every one I know. Thanks to all the staff.

They said my kindergarten son would be reading by Christmas and he did. I also appreciate the year round schedule, vacations in October are Great!

I would like to let every parent out there that the teachers and staff care about your child s education. They have helped my child with her reading and math . When my child started there this school year she was behind two grades in reading and in math. She is now in low 6th.grade reading and high 7th. Grade math. I feel that if you care about your child s education you should look in to putting your child here. They truly do care about your child s education .They will work with you and help in anyway to make sure you and your children feel good about the education in AZ.Thank You Very Much N.P.A. Mrs.Potter

north pointe is nice because it's a small school. The parents seem to be very involved. They also do alot of fieldtrips and activities.

Great teachers, great curriculum, wonderful dean. This school is strict: they have rules and expect students and parents to follow them. This leads to actual learning instead of these dedicated teachers spending all their time on discipline issues. There is a 'family' atsmosphere among students/teachers/staff/parents that I haven't seen at any other school. The kids are taught and expected to learn based on their individual abilites and most of them are doing work at grade levels higher than the grade thet are in. My only regret is that I didn't find this school sooner!

I love North Pointe Academy! The teachers are caring, the school is just the right size to enable learning for the students at the right level. The principal, Dean Agnew is the best, and keeps the school running smoothly. My son has attended for the past three years, and it has gotten better with each one. His teachers have been wonderful. I hope the school stays the same, with all the caring staff, and the great activities that are offered. And AIT, the after-school program, this year, is great!

Quality academics with lots of extracurricular activities make for a desirable school!

I have 2 children at North Pointe and have never been happier. My son is in 1st grade this year but had Ms. Rogus last year and I can not believe what an amazing job she does. My son reads on a 2nd grade level and is doing math at a 2nd grade level. My daughter has a learning disability and the school has helped her so much that when she started last year she was reading at a 3rd grade level this year she is at her 6th grade level and her math is at a 5th grade level where before she was at high 3rd grade level. This school is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone in fact I do.

There are some great teachers here. I would recomend sending your student here if you want to give them a great education.

This school has high academics and a great support system for the students. There are small classes and spalding phoncs and core knowledge gives a lot of fun new things to learn.

North Pointe has been a very positive experience for my 6th grader. He has excelled in every subject and grown beyond my expectations while attending. The teachers and staff are very attentive and supportive for the children.

The curriculum at North Pointe Academy is outstanding. It allows all children to learn math and reading at their own educational level. Rather than educating the children based on their age/grade level, they educate on the child's knowlege level. Public schools have nowhere to place the gifted child that is not in grade 3 or above, N.P. places all children, regardless of age, in the appropriate setting. Kudos, North Point, for not wasting my childs valuable 'sponge' time. Oh, and they have fun, too!

The schools curriculum is awesome. Parent involvement and extracurricular activities are great. They show the kids that having fun and enjoying your surroundings can also be a great learning tool. However their lack of intelligence on how to handle children with special needs is very disappointing. They have very little patience with children with special needs instead of working with the parents and trying to find a better way to handle the situation (IE: informing the parent of such programs as 'Special Education/Idea' and 'Section 504,' both programs to help parents of students and the school with special needs issues).

My experience with North Pointe Academy has been the best! My boys are doing so well this year especially my 5th grader. Mr. Lindsay is the most wonderful asset to my sons life. He is the best teacher we have had the privledge to be involved with. He cares so much about the overall success of his students that he pours his life into them. If it weren't for Mr. Lindsay my son would not be as successful as he is today. I have to say again, that Mr Lindsay is the best teacher my son has ever had. Thank you Mr. Lindsay !I hope you know you are very appreciated. Keep up the great work!

I have 3 boys at N. Pointe. They've only been there a month. We've moved. I love the school. Very organized, and disciplined. I love the inforcement of uniforms. Academically I think they're the best. My boys admit it's tough but they know they have learned a lot since they have been at N.P.A. I am very impressed.

I moved my child from a neighboring public school to Canyon Pointe and am very happy I did!

Due to moving twice in the valley, my son has now been enrolled at CPA. I have found this school to be the best!!! I can tell you that we will not move again until he finishes his years at Canyon Pointe. What a wonderful school. The cirriculum, staff and administration have by far exceed our expectations. I highly recommend CPA to everyone.

This is my first time on great schools. After reading several comments, I came across a parent's posting dated May 3rd expressing Mrs. Rhone's professionalism or lack there of. I think that was too harsh of of words. I think Mrs Rhone the person, is a fantastic lady. Mrs. Rhone the principal Is an entirely diffent thing. Not to be disrespectful in any way, but I think in order to be an effective principal, administrators need years and years of classroom expierence. Mrs Rhone doesn't have that. She has limited knowledge. Her heart is in the right place, but she lack expierence, knowledge, and skills to be an effective principal. I truly think that she should go back into the classroom to be a classroom teacher, then 10-15 years down the road and if she still wants to be an administratior she should go for it.

This year was my sons first year back at school after homeschooling due to health issues. My son has many food allergies and the school has been excellent about helping us with this. We love his teacher and look forward to enrolling our daughter in kindergarten. Overall We are very happy with the school!

2008/2009 was my first school year experience, ever. Never before have I had school aged children. In a nutshell, my kindergartner is moving on to 1st grade at Canyon Pointe and I am anxiously awaiting the time to enroll my youngest child there as well, when the time comes. This is an excellent academic-driven school with a staff full of kind-hearted and professional people. 'Lion Pride' is more than just their slogan... it's a way of life!!

I have always be concern for my son's studies and this school has provided the same beyond my expectations.curriculam is very nice n challenging..all the staff is always cheerful n ready to help.

Regarding the professionalism of Mrs. Rhone, I say to the parent with issues: you are wrong. Do you think she is unprofessional because she is not stoic and uptight? Well, thank goodness, this is woman who absolutely loves every child that comes through those gates every morning. It is evident in everything she says or does. I have children at both Canyon and North Pointe Prep. We have been with Pointe Schools 5 years and been through several deans, prinicpals, etc, and couldn't be happier with Mrs. Rhone. And, to that same parent I also say: if you expect to be taken seriously, you should probably learn how to spell. You wrote defiantly (look it up) instead of definitely, which is clearly what you meant.

This is our first year at Canyon Pointe Academy and we couldn't be any happier with the school!!!!!!! The staff is outstanding, the curriculum is challenging, and I love the school uniforms and the discipline!!! My daughter has flourished there and I plan to send all my children through this school system!! I have had nothing but positive experiences at this school. The Principal, Mrs Rhone is outstanding!!!!!!!!!! She gives the school personality and enthusiasm while she is very professional and highly talented!! We look forward to our future in the Pointe Academy School system!!! I'm thankful that we found this school with high standards!! Thanks to all the staff for your incredible work!!!!!!!!!! We love you all!!!

I have been a CPA Parent for 5 years. I have always been very happy with this school. They have a good curriculum and strive to do their best. Their Principal, Mrs. Rhone, is wonderful. All of the staff seem to get along very well, which shows in the way they interact with each other and the students. This is a small school with a big heart.

In reguards to the principal being unprofessional I truley believe that this parent is wrong. The principal is an amazing woman and an asset to CPA. I have been a member of the Canyon Pointe family for 5 years and am so excited about the direction that CPA is taking. I can say for a fact that the principal is a nuturing, caring and professional woman. I will continue to support CPA and will highly recommend CPA to everyone.

I am disappointed with Canyon Pointe Academy. The school has great teachers, but the administration is horrible. The principal is very unprofessional on so many levels it is almost ridiculous. Canyon Pointe is defiantly in need of new leadership.

My daughter has attended Canyon Pointe Academy for 4 years and we love it! The teachers and staff are very friendly and very easy to communicate with. I'm kept upto date on my child's work, weekly, through the Monday folder system and the school website is a great way to find out what activities and events are happening each week. The Principal and teachers hold the students to the highest standard and have a great discipline policy that is enforced when needed. The Principal is caring, understanding and works with the families to resolve any problems that may arise. I couldn't be happier with the education my child has and continues to receive at Canyon!

It's true that the teachers in this school won't tell you about the failing grades of your child till the last minute. They will send you a report card showing all the pass grades, then all of a sudden another report card showing all the grades which include the failing grade! The failing subject that you never get it in any Tuesday folder! I was so happy to look at my child's grade in A's and B's in the first report card that they sent but was so upset two weeks after when they sent the other report card that shows the failing grade! I was like ' was the teacher just trying to make the grade up?'

Like another parent, I too was surprised when my child ended up with an 'F' on a report card. We have never see anything close to a failing grade in previous years, and I was not even warned about the low scores. This is upsetting. I lose confidence in this school, everday. I'm glad to be moving on to another school next year. I wish our experience had been different.

I am a grandparent of two students at Canyon Pointe. I have have found this school, the principal and teachers to be outstanding. They do a wonderful job of keeping me informed through the 'tuesday folders' and with emails. One of my grandchildren had a grade below a 'C' and I was told right away so we could take measures to insure his grade was brought up to excellent Canyon Pointe standards. The teachers at school do more than just teach reading and math. Many of them have classes after school to help students grow socially, the book club for one. This school also has a wonderful program called Canyon Cares that is teaching the students how important it is to help others through community service. I am proud to say my grandchildren are CPA Lions!

Canyon Pointe is a great school. True that there are issues that arise with the school but they do in every school. I have always found that my concerns were listened to and addressed as best they could. In fact, Mrs Rhone has always listened to my suggestions even if they could not be implemented. I would recommend this school.

I think that Canyon Pointe does a good job at educating my child. She has been going there since Kindergarten and has been on the Honor Roll/Dean's List/Principal's List every quarter through 3rd grade. She blocks up one grade for math and reading and it's not negatively impacting her at all. I find that if you communicate with the teachers and staff-they are more than happy to reply right away and address the problem or concern in a timely fashion. True, the staff loading/unloading kids aren't as friendly as can be, but look at the job they are doing. There are only 3 or 4 of them out there, and they are trying to get 100+ cars in and out of the parking lot as quickly as possible to avoid traffic jams on Union Hills. That's very stressful-you can see it in their faces. I applaud them for that! A+

I am very disappointed with Canyon Pointe this school year 08-09. I have always liked this school but this year some things have changed. There is less communication than in previous years. This seems to be impacting the students in a negative way. I have heard and seen more bullying this school year and I am not seeing much resolution in regards to it. This school has always been a school that keeps their students and teachers close ' like a family' but I am not seeing that this year. Teachers that help your kids in/out of the car do not communicate with parents or children as they help them out/in the car. My students teachers are not willing to communicate regularly about missed homework or failing grades. In fact it wasnt until grading periods end that I found out that two of my kids were failing.

I feel that Canyon Pointe is a great school! The staff is wonderful! The students learn so many things and build great relationships!

We have watched this school grow for many years. There have been many growing pains along the way but they are definately on the right path. You can tell the teachers and administration are genuinely passionate about the education of all of the students. My son absolutley has loved canyon for the last four years. We look forward to continuing with pointe schools.

I agree with the homework being a little to much and I also really liked this school in the beginning, but It really bothered me when my daughter told me that there is quite a bit of yelling going on, how can that be effective for our children? not sure we will be here next year.

Love the one on one attention and the camaradaty the staff has with each other.

Our son started at Canyon Pointe last year in kindergarten. It has been an excellent experience since day one. He advances to higher grades for reading and math, but still has other subjects with his peers. This has given him the ability to learn at a faster pace, and taught him to adjust socially with all age groups. He has exposure to children of all ages in an after school game club also. I have always had immediate responses from all teachers and the principal when I have questions. My son has received very personalized attention regarding special homework requests. Each teacher has gone above and beyond sending home extra work to keep him motivated and learning. This is a school that doesn t just teach to the state level, but really goes the extra mile to excel. There should be more of that in the public schools. All of the teachers seem to be involved with more than just their own class also. The drop off and pick up process is amazing compared to any school that I have seen or heard about. All teachers and principal are involved, and I feel like it is also a safer process than most. This is an especially good school if you are an involved parent.

The school is great academically but lacks the ability to deal with 'special needs' children. Although I requested a 504 plan for my child, it took weeks to arrange anything and I ended up withdrawing my child. I was not happy with the lack of communication about issues, even though I reached out to the teachers and the administration about staying informed.

Very good school, awesome teachers.

This school is awesome! From the teachers to the administration everyone works hard to give the kids the best education, they are challenged and are able to experience things hands on! This school is the best!

Mrs. Agnew, the Dean of Elementary Education is wonderful! Mr. Day, 6th grade teacher is one of the best. My son is doing great in his class. High standards with a dose of fun - a great combination.

What a great school. The administrators and teachers are wonderful.
