Tottie's Asian Fusion: a family tradition of authentic cuisine

Oct 3, 2009

Open since 2004, Tottie’s Asian Fusion has offered a menu of signature dishes from four dynamic cuisines including Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese. Chef and owner Tottie Kaya was born and raised in Laos. She grew up in a family where everyone cooked; the entire family pitched in to help their mother, who was a renowned caterer, specializing in Laotian, Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese cuisines. Tottie learned to cook each authentic style at a very young age.

Today, Tottie’s has something for everyone and offers a welcoming family-oriented environment. The restaurant features a 6-foot crystal dragon and eye-appealing chic dècor. There is also a sleek sushi bar which becomes the focal point of this dining experience at night.

Some of the fusion menu items include Pad Thai, Vietnamese egg rolls (called Tottie Rolls), Pork Dumplings and Shanghai Pan Fried Noodles. Or, try the Red Curry Salmon-grilled salmon with Thai red curry sauced. A delicious selection is the Soft Shell Crab with Curry is made with Thai basil, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, onions, red bell pepper and stir-fried with yellow curry.

The menu is quite extensive with many soups, appetizers, salads, and gourmet dishes to choose from. The noodle options include Cow Mein, Singapore Noodles and Pan Fried Noodles. All can be customized with shrimp, beef, pork, chicken and vegetables. Also, several varieties of fried rice are available.

To satisfy your sweet tooth, try the homemade ice cream sampler—featuring small servings of many Asian flavors. Or, try the Fried Honey Banana served with coconut ice cream or the Mango with Sticky Rice.

Patrons looking for the healthiest alternatives can choose from a range of specialty dishes to suit their special dietary needs. Some house favorites include the Fuji Salad of organic greens with grated fuji apple, grilled meat or tofu and light ginger dressing, or the Laotian Treasure Platter of crisp vegetables and coconut infused chowder. Other dishes like Pad Thai or Bun Tom can be ordered without noodles to accommodate low-carb food plans.

Tottie’s also features an eclectic array of Japanese delicacies created by celebrated sushi chef, Chef Taka, during dinner hours. These ocean-fresh offerings appeal to both sushi purists and trendy gourmands - every evening Chef Taka-san can be found crafting these dazzling contemporary creations.

So, the next time you’re looking for a spectacular Asian fusion experience, be sure to visit Tottie’s in South Scottsdale.
