The Salt Cellar: escape to this underground seafood hideaway

Aug 22, 2009

Open since 1971, The Salt Cellar has been the premiere spot for superior seafood in South Scottsdale. From the street level, The Salt Cellar doesn’t look like much; the real treasures are found three flights down the antique wooden stairway in this underground seaside hideaway. Owners Richard and Cindy Huie strive to offer quality, great service and consistently delicious meals.

Offerings include a wide selection of fresh fish and seafood from around the world including Alaska, Mexico, New Zealand and whole Maine lobster. There are also a variety of prime steak, chicken and beef options.

Appetizer choices seem endless with favorites like the shrimp cocktail, oysters, clams, crab cakes and more. A house specialty is the shrimp San Remo made with shrimp, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes and portabella mushrooms in a seasoned butter sauce.

Some of the featured menu items include Chesapeake Bay blue soft shell jumbo crab sautéed in butter and topped with roasted almonds. Also, the Alaskan halibut which is served broiled with lemon caper butter or blackened Cajun style.

Happy hour at The Salt Cellar is a double day event! Enjoy half off appetizers and drinks daily from 4-7 p.m. and again from 10 p.m.-close. On Monday night it’s happy hour all night long.

The Salt Cellar has received several “Best Seafood” awards including a reining title from Arizona Business Magazine for eight years running. Other nods include the Phoenix Magazine, Arizona Republic and more.
