Giuseppes on 28th: Authentic Italian cuisine
Giuseppe’s on 28th is a small Italian restaurant, owned and operated by local resident, Richard Bock. Bock is not only a restaurateur but also an accomplished cellist in the Phoenix Symphony. Patrons can enjoy the smooth sound of Bock’s many talents while dining on authentic Italian cuisine.
The small, quaint restaurant décor is warm and inviting. Space is limited to just about 20 patrons, and the place packs full of loyal customers regularly.
The Italian fare consists of pastas, subs, parmigiana, spaghetti, lasagna, ravioli and more. Start things off with freshly made bruschetta—small toast slices, garlic and extra virgin olive oil, then topped with your choice of basil, gorgonzola cheese, prosciutto, figs, pesto, tomatoes and olives ($7). Or try fried eggplant, calamari, antipasto or prosciutto, goat cheese, roasted peppers and Sicilian olives platter ($8).
There are a few soup and salad choices including an Italian Gazpacho soup prepared with bell peppers, red onion, cucumber and tomato ($4). Also, try the house specialty Giuseppe salad—Italian chef salad with cheese, olives, cucumber, carrots, onions and mixed greens ($7).
There are a few specialty pasta dishes at Giuseppe’s on 28th including the Bolognese Ragu made with six different meats, the Italian macaroni and cheese, penne pasta and rigatoni with sausage ($13-$15), order any dish with fresh pasta for $1 more.
Save some room for desert and try Giuseppe’s homemade Keylime mascarpone tarts. Or, try a cannoli, tiramisu and the flourless chocolate cake with gelato ($5-$6).
So, the next time you’re looking for an authentic Italian experience that won’t break the bank, head out to Giuseppe’s on 28th and enjoy the aroma and taste of greatness.
