Since 1958, Sugar Bowl has been a sweet staple in Old Town Scottsdale. Little has changed at Sugar Bowl’s in the last 50 years, it is still run by the original owners and the décor remains authentic.  The Sugar Bowl old fashioned ice cream parlor offers a nostalgic experience from the parlor’s past.

The Sugar Bowl has been feature many times in Bil Keane’s cartoon Family Circus.  Bil has been a loyal customer and a lover of Sugar Bowl’s treats for many years, patrons can purchase Sugar Bowl and Family Circus memorabilia while visiting.

The ice cream creations seem practically endless at Sugar Bowls.  There are more than 10 ice cream flavors to choose from and you can get them served in a cone, sundae, shake, malt, old fashioned soda, parfait and a split.

The super fancy sundaes and splits menu features creations like the buster brownie—made with fresh baked brownies, a scoop of vanilla ice cream covered in gooey marshmallow and topped with whip cream and a cherry.  The gosh awful gooey banana split starts with a  ripe banana, then topped with Turkish coffee ice cream, caramel sauce, red raspberry sorbet and covered in marshmallow sauce, whipped cream and a cherry ($5-$8).

Ice cream treats aren’t all they serve up at the Sugar Bowl.  There is also a full menu of sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, soups and salads. Sandwich options include favorites like a tuna melt; Reuben; roast beef; meat loaf and much more ($8-$9).  If it’s a burger you crave, try the bacon burgers, patty melts or chili burgers ($8).

Next door to the ice cream parlor, kids big and small can enjoy a Sugar Bowl Fiesta!  There is an air hockey table and hoop shoot and skee ball games, you can rack up the tickets and turn them in for prizes after you’re finished playing.

While you’re in Old Town Scottsdale, enjoy shopping and art galleries at more than 100 specialty stores.
