Mighty Mud Mania: down and dirty in Scottsdale
Published: Jul 8, 2009
Valley children are invited to participate in the Mighty Mud Mania — a messy, fun and free event in Scottsdale Friday, July 17, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.,
The Mighty Mud Mania has been a traditional summer activity in Scottsdale since 1976. Originally, the event was a promotional gimmick for “Shout” pre-wash spray, however; Arizona mud proved to be too much for the pre-wash spray to handle. But, the event was such a success that the City of Scottsdale decided to incorporate the event into its annual summer park program.
The main event the original Mighty Mud obstacle course, featuring races throughout the day for four various age groups — 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-17. For this event, all participating kids will be required to wear shirts and lace up, closed-toed shoes. Also, a parent's permission slip is required.
Kids should wear old cloths that can be thrown away after the event; parents should consider picking up a pair of tennis shoes at a discount store.
Other Mighty Mud Mania activities include three giant waterslides, sandcastle building, open pool swimming and giant water cannon. For kids 6 and under, there will be a mini mud course, mud pit, puddle pool, buckets, toys, bubbles, beach balls and more.
There will be some shaded areas for parents and kids to relax, but it's a good idea to bring your own shade tents for your family.
If you’re planning to take a swim in the park pool, be sure to bring a clean swimsuit and towel, and take advantage of the free showers before entering the swim complex.
Although participation in the Mighty Mud Mania is free, participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food item as a donation to help support the Vista del Camino Food Bank.
There will be plenty of drinking water available at no cost for parents and kids. Vendors will sell snacks and drinks.
