Superstition Farm: quality time with the animals
Published: May 1, 2009
Ever wonder what it would be like to live and work on a farm? Throw your boots on and head on down to Superstition Farm.
At this family-owned-and-run farm, you can take a guided tours, visit the petting zoo, take horseback riding lessons, enjoy a yummy snack at the milk and ice-cream bar, throw a birthday party or event and more.
On Saturdays at 10 a.m. and noon, staffers will take you on a journey through the farm, exploring the farm and its animal residents with all five senses. You will hear about the farming industry and the impact farm animals have on the environment and economy.
Then, see the animals and what a day in their lives is like. Next, you will get to go for a hayride, play in the hay maze and have a hands-on visit with the farm animals.
Saturday tours are given on a walk-in basis, but for large groups they ask that you make arrangements ahead of time. Tour pricing is $5.50 for children up to 12 years old and $7.50 for ages 13 and older. Babies are free.
If you don’t feel like taking the tour, but you're eager to spend some quality time with the farm animals, stop by the Superstition Farm petting zoo.
There you will find farm residents like Snickers, the Boer goat. He likes to jump out of the pen and get into trouble with his friend Oreo, a Nigerian Dwarf goat. There are also ducks, roosters, dogs, horses, turkeys, rabbits and other four-legged friends waiting to play.
The petting zoo hours are Monday from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Tuesday-Friday from noon-3:30 p.m. and Saturday from 1-3:30 p.m. Petting zoo admission is half the price of the tour. ($2.75-$3.75)
Horse-riding lessons are available for ages 4 and up at either beginner or intermediate riding level. Four 1-hour lessons are $120. Contact Rachel at (480) 241-4947 or at rachel@superstitionfarm.com with questions or to set up lessons.
The farm also offers summer camp options.
