Pueblo Grande Museum: explore the archaeological wonders of Arizona's past!
Located at a 1,500-year-old Hohokam village ruin, the Pueblo Grande Museum allows patrons to take a closer look into the culture of the Hohokam people from the Pueblo Grande and the Salt River Valley who lived in central and southern Arizona from about A.D. 1 to 1450.
At the museum, you can learn the history of the Hohokam culture as you explore the ruin trails and view reconstructed models of their homes.
You can also explore the ruins through a program called DIG IT: Explore Archaeology. Learn how archeologists look for clues to the past and how those clues help them determine the history of the people who lived in these regions.
There are also several changing exhibits that feature various other archaeology exhibits, Southwest culture and American Indian art.
The museum provides tours by appointment only and requests that you call (602) 495-0901 to make appointments. Also, they offer tours of the Hohokam irrigation canals in the Park of Four Waters on the last Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. from October through May.
The museum store offers a wide variety of books, jewelry, pottery, gifts, games and much more. Be sure to stop by and take a look on your way out.
